The theme of the conference is Quality of Life through Quality of Information.
We intend to focus on the role of e-health in pursuing benefits in terms of quality of life for patients, health-care personnel, citizens and the society.
The topic can be analyzed from many points of view, and MIE2012 will provide a unique platform for fruitful exchange of ideas and experiences among the actors and stakeholders of ICT supported healthcare. Both methodologies and examples of applications are the base for the discussion, and all of us will learn not only from success stories in the field, but also from failures. The opinion and experiences of both the designers/planners and the addresses/users of e-health systems are of great importance when the target is the global improvement of the quality of life, at personal and public level. For this reason we do encourage health professionals, policy makers, and also patient/citizen associations to take an active part in the conference and share their knowledge.

Keynotes, scientific sessions, thematic workshops and panels, short communications and tutorials will constitute the traditional backbone of the conference. In parallel, special "partnership for innovation" tracks and round tables will be organized to get the best from the synergy between the scientific / industrial /political world. Various kinds of contributions are solicited and welcome in order to provide MIE2012 attendees a stage for active participation.
In addition MIE2012 will offer national, regional and European projects and initiatives the opportunity to demonstrate their results in the "Village of the Future" that will be hosted during the conference.

All the submissions will be reviewed and, if accepted, available on the conference CD-ROM and EFMI website. Scientific contributions meeting the requirements will be published by IOS Press and indexed in Medline, moreover a selection of papers will be proposed for submission to a leading international journal.
The online submission is open and will close from January 15 to April 15, 2012, according to the various type of contributions.

MIE2012 will take place in Pisa, a nice, ancient town in the Tuscany region, close to Lucca, Volterra, Firenze. Well known for its Leaning Tower and not only, Pisa and its surroundings offer the opportunity to enjoy a rich cultural and natural heritage. After a busy conference day, seaside resorts can provide the chance of a relaxing bath or a walk along pleasant beaches.
